Stats Show Breast Lifts Grew Twice as Fast as Implants

There is hardly any doubt that breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure, as it has topped the charts over the years. However, industry watchers were taken by surprise earlier this year when the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reported that breast lift procedures were growing two times faster than breast implant surgeries. ASPS’ stats revealed that lifts grew by 70 percent – from 53,000 to 90,000 procedures – during 2000-2013, outpacing implants two-to-one.

Here are the main findings of the report

  • Women in the age range of 30-54 had almost 70 percent of the total breast lift treatments in 2013
  • 290,224 breast augmentation procedures were performed last year, which showed a 37% growth since 2000. This was only about half the growth rate of lifts
  • Lifts are especially popular among women who experienced sagging such as those with children
  • Childbirth, breastfeeding and aging are the main reasons for breast sag and other bodily changes
  • Women also approached plastic surgeons to resolve breast sag caused by excessive weight loss

According to experts, the ideal candidate for a breast lift is a woman with a significant amount of breast tissue and who does not necessarily want to have implants. The procedure raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. It cannot change the size of the breasts or make the upper part look fuller. Keeping your weight steady and sticking to a healthy lifestyle is important to maintain the results longer.

Women who want more volume should consider a lift in conjunction with breast augmentation surgery. Ideal candidates for augmentation with a lift are those with depressed, sagging breast tissue and a low nipple position.
